Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Marlee Brunk, the educator and reading therapist behind Read With MB. I’ve spent over a decade in education helping students build the literacy skills they need to thrive. My approach is structured, evidence-based, and always rooted in encouragement and connection. I hold two Master’s degrees—one in Literacy and Reading Intervention and another in Teaching—and I’m a certified Reading and Dyslexia Specialist as well as an Academic Language Practitioner. My approach is rooted in evidence-based dyslexia therapy, and I’m committed to empowering each student by fostering an inclusive environment that builds both academic skills and confidence. I live in downtown Colorado Springs with my husband, our daughter Nora, and our goldendoodle! When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me baking sourdough bread, playing at the park, checking out local eateries downtown, or cheering on my students as they take on the next chapter.

Who I Help

I work with students of all ages who are falling behind in reading — whether they have a formal dyslexia diagnosis or simply falling behind. I also work with who are kinders looking to get a jump start on reading and handwriting.

  • Evidence-based and aligned with research-backed dyslexia interventions
  • Virtual (or in person if you are local) for convenience and accessibility, no matter where you live.
  • Flexible with scheduling options to fit your family’s routine
  • Rooted in connection — I prioritize building confidence alongside literacy skills

Why I’m Qualified

I’m a certified Dyslexia Specialist and Academic Language Practitioner with over a decade of experience in literacy instruction. I hold two master’s degrees in literacy and reading intervention, and I’ve helped dozens of students make significant reading gains — even those who were years behind.
My approach is both compassionate and data-driven, and it’s truly my greatest joy to have a front row seat to students transforming into confident readers.

Curriculum Used:

I deliver evidence-based reading therapy using multiple nationally recognized structured literacy programs. This allows me to provide age-appropriate, intensive reading intervention across a wide range of student needs.

Grades 2–6:

A comprehensive, research-backed dyslexia and reading intervention program developed by the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. This program is 230 hours of instruction delivered through a combination of direct teaching, guided practice, and independent application.

Grades 6-12:

A structured literacy program specifically designed for older struggling readers and adolescents with dyslexia. This program is faster paced and is 124 instructional hours. JET provides age-appropriate, intensive instruction that addresses decoding, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression.

Grades K–1 Build:

An Orton-Gillingham based program designed to provide early foundational literacy skills, phonemic awareness, decoding, and spelling and handwriting practice to support emerging readers.

“My son was in the first percentile in reading. After just four months of this program, he grew to the 35th ! He actually looks forward to his sessions and his handwriting is beautiful now! She makes learning fun and engaging! She met him exactly where he was at as a reader. I can’t recommend Read with MB enough — this therapy level teaching has been a game changer for our entire family.”
